Synthesis of 7-aminoisoquinoline: To a suspension of methanol (20 mL) containing Pd/C (10%, 100 mg) was added a solution of 7-nitroisoquinoline (200 mg, 1.15 mmol) in methanol (40 mL). The system was degassed and charged with hydrogen, followed by stirring the reaction mixture at room temperature for 24.5 hours. The completion of the reaction was confirmed by TLC monitoring. The reaction mixture was filtered to remove the Pd/C catalyst and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to remove the solvent. The resulting residue (150 mg, 90% yield) was used for subsequent reactions without further purification.

Synthesis of isoquinolin-7-amine (31-4)
To a suspend solution of Pd/C (10%, 100 mg) in methanol (20 mL) was added 31-3 (200 mg, 1.15 mmol) in methanol (40 mL).
After having been degassed and recharged with hydrogen, the mixture was then stirred at room temperature for 24.5 h. TLC showed that the reaction was complete.
The Pd/C was removed by filtration and the solvent was evaporated.
The residual was used without further purification (150 mg, yield 90%).
