Steps:
Synthesis of Compound 1-5
DMF (20 mL) and tetrahydrofuran (THF, 100 mL) were added to sodium hydride (3.44 g), and the mixture was stirred at 0°C. The mixture was added dropwise with a solution of (S)-(+)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane-4-methanol (10.4 g) in a mixture of DMF (10 mL) and THF (10 mL), and stirred at 0°C for 1 hour. The mixture was added with benzyl chloride (9.95 mL), and stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The mixture was added with a saturated ammonium chloride solution, and extracted twice with ethyl acetate. The resulting organic layer was washed 4 times with water and once with saturated brine. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and then the solvent was removed to obtain a crude product of (S)-(+)-4-benzyloxymethyl-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane (17.8 g, quantitative).
