To a solution of 2-(4-nitro-phenyl)-isobutyramide (538 mg; 2.59 mmol), prepared as in 78(A), in THF (25 mL), was added 37% HCl (5 mL) and the resulting reaction was refluxed for 20 hours. Then, the solution was concentrated under vacuum and the residue was portioned between DCM and water. The organic layer was dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporate under vacuum to give the title compound as a white solid (512 mg; quantitative yield).LCMS (RT): 3.1 min (Method A); MS (ES+) gave m/z: 210.00 (MH+).
