Steps:
4.1.2. General procedure A: methoxyl cleavage with boron tribromide
General procedure: A solution of the corresponding methoxyl starting material in DCM (4 mL/mmol) was cooled to-20 °C before boron tribromide (3 eq, 1 M in DCM) was added in a nitrogen atmosphere at the same temperature. The stirred solution was subsequently warmed to ambient temperature overnight. The resulted reaction mixture was diluted with water and the phases were separated. The aqueous layer was extracted three times with ethyl acetate and the combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the crude product was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel.
