REVIEW
 Acitretin is a second-generation, orally-available retinoid typically used for the treatment of severe resistant psoriasis. It is a metabolite of etretinate, which was used prior to the introduction of acitretin. Acitretin binds to nuclear retinoid receptors such as RXR and RAR, inducing keratinocyte differentiation and reducing epidermal hyperplasia, thus slowing cell reproduction.
