Hazard Information | Back Directory | [Uses]
Temocillin Disodium is the salt of Temocillin, which is a β-lactam stable against most β-lactamases is used as an alternative to carbapenems. | [Definition]
ChEBI: Temocillin disodium is an organic sodium salt. It contains a temocillin(2-). | [Biological Activity]
Temocillin Disodium inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesiswhich is necessary for the growth and survival of bacterial cells. Specificallyit interferes with the synthesis of peptidoglycanthe major component of the bacterial cell wall by binding to a specific target on the cell wall synthesis enzyme called penicillin-binding protein 3 (PBP3). This blocks the synthesis of peptidoglycanleading to the weakening and eventual lysis of the bacterial cell. |
