Synthesis of I-5: To a 1L round bottom flask was added 5-nitropyrimidin-2-amine (30 g, 214.13 mmol, 1.00 eq.), methanol (400 mL) and palladium carbon (12 g). The reaction mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature in a hydrogen atmosphere. Upon completion of the reaction, the solid catalyst was removed by filtration. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford pyrimidine-2,5-diamine (20 g, 85% yield) as a light brown solid. | [References]
